The power of music

Have you ever noticed that it is easier to remember the lyrics to a song if the song has a catchy beat?  Sometimes its even possible to have no idea what the lyrics to songs are until you hear the first couple notes a somewhat familiar song.

Music is actually much more heavily intertwined with our genetic predispositions than many people realize.  When people speak face to face we subconsciously allude to the words that we are about to say by moving the muscles in out face and forming expressions.  Even if you can't hear someone, if you can see their face you can often take a pretty good guess at what they might be talking about or how they are feeling.  The other almost more important part subconscious (although occasionally conscious) method of alluding to what we are going to say next is the tones used in our previous speech.

Music can work with tones and pitches to achieve similar effects even though you don't use your eyes when listening to music (unless of course you are watching a music video or something like that).  Musical tone patterns are all very similar when it comes to music.  Song writers pick specific patterns for specific types of songs.  This is picked up the listeners and subconsciously they begin to associate moods with the song that in tun helps them associate the lyrics (well for "good" songs at least) with the tone.  This is the reason why people are able to recall lyrics so much easier when the music is playing.

Now for the real power of music, and it is a pretty cool brain hack, but if you can find music to songs that you like without the lyrics, you will be amazed at how easy it is to make up your own lyrics on the spot to go with the music!  Try finding some karaoke music and then making up lyrics to the song as the music plays.  You can even use some of the actual lyrics when you are just beginning to try this, and substitute in slightly different lyrics where you feel like it.  The more you do this the easier it becomes as you begin to learn and consciously recognize more patters and poetry found in the lyrics of songs.  So what are you waiting for!?  Go out and explore the power of music!
